About John

I grew up in Carteret County graduating from West Carteret high school and thereafter obtained a degree in chemical engineering from North Carolina State University. I was able to travel the world as an engineer solving complex problems for industry in America and abroad. As an engineer, my work involved coordinating with professionals in a variety of disciplines to achieve specific goals. These often included environmental and regulatory issues which could be solved with a broad teamwork approach. I plan to bring the skills with me as the mayor of Beaufort. Here in Beaufort I am an active boater and angler and train for triathlons. I also help my wife Donna with her business here in town. I have never been involved in politics; however, watching this area grow over the last 50 years I would like to use my skills to focus on resolving some of our issues and guide us gently into the future. My wife Donna Babington and I live on Ann Street, we have several children who live locally and throughout the states. This is an absolutely wonderful place to live and a particularly good time to live here. The opportunities for a better life for all of us are plentiful but need focused deliberation to achieve what is best for all residents of Beaufort. I would like Beaufort to be the kind of place that our children and grandchildren would want to come and live. The combination of economic and environmental issues present some real challenges and I truly believe with my skills I would be able to lead Beaufort into the future.
